Something old, something new…

While thinking of how I could begin my new blog, I was struggling with ideas that seemed either too big,  too inconsequential, too tricky or just downright boring.  I have a whole collection of blog posts of wedding tips, links to other interesting sites as well as half written pages of thoughts and stories but nothing felt quite right for my new beginning. In the same way that a new notebook or sheet of drawing paper can be intimidating, I looked at the blank screen and I felt I had to open with something special or at the least, inspiring...

Diana: silk crepe backed satin edwardian style wedding dress with lace trim

This Edwardian-inspired ivory wedding dress is a simple and elegant example of how you can wear a period style and still keep things simple and fresh. There is a light lace trim around the neck and sash as well as an embroidered and beaded panel at the front to add a touch of detail and contrast texture. The superweight crepe-backed satin is a lovely fabric to wear, with an excellent drape to it and is most commonly used in 1930s bias cut dresses because of this. Both sides of the fabric can be  shown as they set each other off nicely. The...

Ella: Gold spotted blush georgette strapless dress with matching sash

‘Ella’ This dress is a simple and elegant style with a slim silhouette, that becomes much fuller with movement as the skirt has a generous amount of fabric in it.  The bodice fits neatly under the bust to around the level of the hip bone and a simple sash adds a focal point and some extra texture and moevment. This style would look particularly lovely in a two-tone shot chiffon as it would show off the  colours beautifully. It would be very easy to adapt this style to include straps, sleeves or even simply add a cape or long scarf...

Nina: Asymmetrical silk duchess satin wedding dress

This dress is an asymmetrical dress draped and pleated around the body to show off a woman’s shape without revealing too much. It is made from a deliciously soft duchess satin silk which has a sheen like nothing else and has a lovely body to it so really works with bold sculptural shapes as well as more subtle simple lines. The heavy pleats in the skirt allow for plenty of movement while still maintaining a fairly slim silhouette. The strap over the shoulder is three strands of alternating pearls and crystals and could just as easily be...

Silk satin chiffon bespoke wedding dress with swarovski crystal buttons

This dress was designed around feeling good, in the fabrics against the skin, in the movement of the skirts, the sweep of the train, in the support of the bodice, the understated glamour, the gentle cress of the veil and the feeling good within oneself. The chiffon over layer has a satin finish which gave a lovely depth and sheen to the dress while still maintaining a lightness of movement. The layer beneath is superweight silk crepe backed satin which has a lovely weight and drape to it which meant the skirt was quite substantial without...
